Dentures
What is a denture? Complete dentures, dentures, dentures, or dentures are synonymous and mean dentures that replace all of the teeth in a jaw. It is the first and oldest type of dental prosthesis.
What is an overdenture?
Other names are implant-based dentures or implant-based dentures. This denture relies on two to six implants. In fact, the implantation of dentures is greatly reduced due to implants.
Implant-based overdenture
It is the same as overdenture. A complete maxillary or mandibular prosthesis relies on two to six implants. In fact, the implantation of dentures is greatly reduced due to implants.
Fixed dentures
It is not correct to use the word fixed denture because dentures are always movable. Even dentures mounted on implants.
If you are looking for a fixed prosthesis, the best way is a full-jaw implant, which includes performing eight implants in each jaw and loading 14 veneer units on these implants. This type of prosthesis is the best type of prosthesis for toothless jaws.
Fixed overdenture
It is not correct to use the word fixed overdenture because overdenture is mobile despite having much less sagging than dentures.
Artificial teeth with implant base
Implant-based dentures are the same as overdentures, the definitions of which are explained in the paragraphs above.
Disadvantages of dentures
Dentures have three major drawbacks:
- Bone resorption: Bones, like muscles, need to be pressed to keep them from breaking down. If the teeth are pulled, the necessary pressure is not applied to the teeth. As a result, the jawbones degenerate over time and the person’s face is severely affected. The only solution is to have an implant because the implant puts pressure on the bone like the root of a tooth.
- Mobility and looseness: Dentures are still loose at best, and this looseness is annoying to many people.
- Poor chewing power: Due to the mobility of dentures, chewing power is less than fixed dentures and a person may have digestive problems.
- Probability of fungal diseases
- Food stuck
- Bad Breath
- Less useful life
Advantages of overdenture over dentures
The most important advantages of overdenture over dentures:
- Less jaw bone resorption: Due to the implant, the rate of jaw bone resorption in the overdenture is much lower.
- Less laxity: The amount of looseness in the overdenture is much less than in dentures.
- More chewing power: Due to the fact that the looseness of the overdenture is less than the denture, the chewing power of the overdenture is more.
Advantages of overdenture over whole jaw implants
The only advantage of overdenture over full jaw implants is that in cases where we have severe bone resorption, full jaw implants according to dental books are due to problems such as (lack of beauty, inability to return the height of the face to its original state and short life ) Which is not recommended at all and in these cases overdenture is the best possible treatment because in the front of the jaw in 90% of severe analysis implants can be placed.
Disadvantages of overdenture
Overdenture has many advantages over dentures that we mentioned in the paragraph above. But it has disadvantages for all jaw implants:
- Bone resorption: Due to the fact that the number of implants in the overdenture is less than the whole jaw implant, there is more bone resorption in it.
- Existence of laxity: There is no slack in the whole jaw implant, but there is slack in the overdenture.
- Chewing power: Food chewing power in overdenture is less than full jaw implants.
- fungal diseases
- Food stuck
Disadvantages of low quality (cheap) dentures compared to quality dentures
Disadvantages of poor quality dentures include the following:
- Less beauty
- More looseness
- More mouth sores and sores
- Less chewing power
- Temporomandibular joint injury
- More food stuck
The difference between low quality (cheap) overdenture and quality overdenture
Disadvantages of poor quality overdenture include the following:
- Less beauty
- More looseness
- More bruises and wounds
- Less chewing power
- Temporomandibular joint injury
- More food stuck

Fixed dentures

Jelly dentures
Flexible dentures or dentures that have a soft (soft lining) part that comes in contact with the gums. This denture is only effective in temporary treatments and should not be used in long-term treatments due to defects (including tearing of the jelly part and dimensional changes due to temperature changes).
Piece dentures
If you have one or more missing teeth, you can use a piece of denture, but this is not recommended at all. The only use of this prosthesis is in temporary treatments. Disadvantages and complications of one-piece dentures include the following:
- Bad Breath
- Gingival resorption of lateral teeth
- Bone resorption in the area of the extracted tooth
- Decay and wear of adjacent teeth
- Susceptibility to fungal diseases
Immediate dentures
It takes a month to make a denture, but an immediate denture can be made in as little as a week, but the best way to make a denture is to make the prosthesis in several steps. These are several time consuming process steps.
